Why

Volunteer computing projects already have useful science waiting for idle machines. Examples: Rosetta@home and World Community Grid through BOINC, and Folding@home. A pool member could give their idle time to one of them without setting anything up by hand.

What

  • A workload that runs the project's own client in a container, attached to the project the owner chooses with the owner's own account. The worker gives it a time budget and limits on CPU and GPU.
    • The BOINC client is LGPL, and attaching it to projects is what it is for.
    • The Folding@home v8 client is GPL.
  • We only run their clients as published. Credit goes to the owner's account with that project, and the app says so.

Not this

  • Copying either project's code into Sisyphus.
  • Using their names as if they were ours.
  • Counting their credit as work Sisyphus verified. Rewards for this, if any, need a separate decision under #21.

Done when

On the R620, an owner turns on "Give idle time to Rosetta@home" in the app and sees work units complete in their BOINC account.
